Nera Gorges and Bigar Waterfall - a miracle of nature

Bigar is a beautiful waterfall with green moss, in the nature reserve that bears the same name, in Anina Mountains.
The small waterfall called by locals `the wonder of Minis Canyon`, is unique in the world due to the way its water falls. It is situated in Banat, on Minis Valley, at Gura Poneasca, where the road meets the imaginary Parallel 45.

According to The World Geography publication, the Bigar Waterfall from Caras-Severin is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Romania, amazing through its spectacular show of the water spread in thousands of threads on the green moss covered cliff, creating a graceful water veil. Two hundred meters above waterfall there is Izbucul Bigar that springs from a cave. These are certainly unique landscapes.

Last year, the famous publication Huffington Post wrote about Bigar Waterfall in Caras - Severin that it a unique place in the world, as if detached from Disney tales. The Americans were so excited about it that they have dedicated whole pages and declared it one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the planet.

In addition to Bigar Waterfall the tourists can admire the artificial lake on the Minis Valley, Pestera Buhui (Buhui Cave) and Buhui Lake. Also it worth visiting the water mills in Rudariei Valley, Nera Gorge and Beiului Lake, next to Sasca Montana. Tourists can get accommodation in Anina town or Resita town, the roads being practicable through the year.
Cheile Minisului is one of the most beautiful area from Banatul Montan.

Nera Gorges are quite close to Oravita city if you will pass through Racasdia, Ciuchici and then Potoc. From here to the Beiului bridge there are two to three kilometers. Up here the road is paved.
If you follow the path to the left on an unpaved road accessible by car, you will arrive to a fishing place from where,by  walking through the woods, after a half an hour's drive will appear Beiului Eye Lake, and a few hundred meters above the BeuÅŸniÅ£a waterfall.
If you follow the right path you will reach the Nera Gorges - about twenty kilometers following the river upstream.
Also from Beiului Bridge tourists can reach Sasca Montan and the path called the Tunnel. Here are six relatively short tunnels in trapezoidal shape, similar to those in the Roman mines at Rosia Montana, dug by ancient inhabitants to shorten the distance.
You will really feel that you are in a nature reserve - fresh air, quiet, chirping little birds, rippling water and an amazingly and surprisingly blue of Beiului Lake.

Lake Legend says that the son of a governor of the Levant, hunting in these woods, was madly in love with the daughter of a shepherd.
All was well until the governor found out  about their great love story. Believing that if she's gone, his son will forget about her, he ordered her killing. But again, of course, things were not as he thought. A war started between the son and his father with a tragic end- governor's son died

in the fighting, crying after his girlfriend. Tears flowed, hence the unique lake water color, turquoise. It says that in ancient times those tears

were the color eyes!
Or maybe every morning the park administrator has the task of overturning an inkwell with blue ink in the lake. Fix 329 drops!
A few hundred meters up the trail that climbs gently through the forest,  BeuÅŸniÅ£a waterfall can be reached, a chute with a bridal veil appearance.

Proposed route:

Bigar Waterfall is about 452 km far from Bucharest. This hidden place, somewhere on the road between the village of Oravita and the village

of Bozovici, in the Anina mountains on the national road number 57 B, lies few metres from the highway,  to the point named „Paralela 45“ (Parallel 45).

The itinerary will be:

Bucharest - Pitesti - Craiova - Drobeta Turnu Severin- Bigar Waterfall

Main things to see on the route:

Pitesti

Poenari Castle - important piece of history related to Vlad Tepes. Some people says that this castle is actually more related to Dracula than Bran. You have to climb 1480 steps, but there is nice view to the valley; in the end it is worth it.

Musical Fountains placed in front of the city hall, offer an adorable ambiance during the summer evenings with the coloured fountains singing, some terrasses with cold beer and generally nice atmosphere. The music lasts 30 minutes while the light and water are dancing togheter.

The newly restored Victoriei Street is a favorite spot for locals. Take a strawl down it and enjoy the flowers and the fountains while soaking up the athmosphere of middle Romania.

Craiova Musical Fountain is also nice to see. Located in the city center, pedestrial area , every summer evening is a pleasure to look at the coloured water and listend to the music. Good Caffeteria is very close. Very nice for small children, lovers , family , and old people. Anyone.

Nicolae Romanescu Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Europe. There are a variety of species brought here from all over the world, including sequioa trees and ginko biloba. The sights are wonderful. In October you can see the most beautiful autumnal colours of the leaves

and in a winter night the silence and the lights reflected on the snow makes you feel like you're in another dimension.

The Art Museum is a nice option for art lovers. Hosted in the imposing Jean Mihail Palace, is the city's top cultural attraction, a "must-visit" for every lover of art & architecture. The building is impressive, both on the outside and the inside (now recently opened after a long restauration process), and it gets even more interesting once you get to hear the stories about its first owners or about other famous people who stayed

there along the years.
Inside the museum, visitors can see several pieces of world-famous sculptor Constantin Brancusi, as well as an impressive collection of

paintings from Romania's most important painters (Grigorescu, Tonitza, Aman, Pallady, Lecca etc).

Drobeta Turnu Severin

The Water Castle is a beautiful tower with fine architecture in the city center. An elevator takes you to the top, where you can go around and

have a view of the city and the neighbourhood. And all is for free.

The Iron Gates Museum, established in 1912,  has been opened with its present displays on the 15th of May, 1972. It has two departments: history and natural sciences, with an aquarium presenting Danubian fish species. Later on ethnography and art departments were added.

But there is nothing more beautiful on this world than to sail on the beautiful waters of Danube, with its Carpathian walls rising majestically

on each side. A journey on the Danube Valley is full of geographical wonders: the enormous sculpture of Burebista made in the hard rock, the Mraconia Monastery, huge caves and old military shelters built deep in the mountain.
The beauty of its landscapes is truly unique and the geographical and historical treasures are invaluable. One of the most fascinating things

is the Mraconica Monastery built on one of the shores. It rises above the waters and inspires an intriguing serenity. The architecture is

impressive and unique. It may be also very adventurous to explore the Ponicova Cave which is a huge cave, big enough to be visited by boat.

And, of course, the huge portrait of Burebista carved in the hard rock is one of the most remarkable works of art ever made by man.
The shores of Danube are adorned with numerous villas that invite tourists to enjoy a picturesque vacation in one of its elegant rooms with a view to its restless waters. These accommodations offer a large outdoor space with pools, barbeques and playgrounds. It is the perfect choice

for spending a few fabulous days with your family on the beautiful Danube Valley.

The journey will end at Bigar Waterfall and Nera Gorges. One look at this waterfall and you'll see why traveling to it is a must. The stream falls from a cliff onto the moss, which makes the water fall in the interesting patterns you see.

Absolutely breath taking!! One MORE reason to visit Romania!
